This blog is dedicated to our daughter Hannah, who was born in Glendale, CA on May 19, 2006. Hannah will grow up bilingual (Spanish-English) in LA. Because I realized how difficult it is to find quality materials in Spanish in LA, I have decided to create this blog. I am hoping that Hannah and I will share this blog and that other parents who are interested in bilingualism will find the blog useful. Developing Writing Skills
Hannah has been 'writing" for some time. She knows how to write many people's names (including the members of the family, her friends, etc. However, when I started teaching her how to write, I taught her uppercase.... She is beginning to recognize lowercase letters, but I am not teaching her the difference.. Am I making a mistake?

I do not think that you are making a mistakes. I believe that Hannah will learn the difference between those two on her own as she develops more language skills. It is a good thing that you already taught her how to write to prepare her for a higher education. My boyfriend’s niece is the same age as Hannah but I’m not sure she knows how to write yet. She spokes both Spanish and English fluently at her age but her family only focus on teaching her speaking and reading instead of teaching her how to write. It is a eye opening to see different approach with different parenting styles.
ReplyDeleteWell, she is learning how to read! So that is great!
